Why the name ‘Shadow Fiction’?

We believe that stories often lurk in the corners of computers, and our goal is to bring them out into the ‘light’, and reveal them from the shadows.

What can I submit? 

You can submit short stories, flash fiction, poetry and photography that have not been published in other magazines.

Do we accept multiple/simultaneous submissions?

Shadow Fiction accepts both multiple and simultaneous submissions. However, we do not recommend multiple submissions.

When can I submit? 

Shadow Fiction is always open to submissions.

How do I submit? 

Go to our submissions page, and click the line that says: Submit to Shadow Fiction. You cannot submit to our magazine through e-mail.

What’s submishmash?

Submishmash is an online application that we use to look through all of our submissions.

When will I have a response about my submitted piece? 

Usually, you will be able to expect a response within a week. However, it could take up to a month, depending on the time of the year. If you do not hear back from us within three weeks, do not hesitate to send us an e-mail.

If your piece is accepted by another magazine while waiting for our response, please e-mail us so we can withdraw it from our submission pile, or withdraw your piece through Submishmash.

Will I get paid for my piece? 

Unfortunately, we’re unable to pay for pieces at this moment.
